It’s one of the best films, not only in 2018. Because never has a modern film with just a few dialogues but through a bombastic sound and story and a small but ingenious cast created such a dense atmosphere. It’s still relevant today. Especially since the incomparable emotionality is unparalleled. It’s an absolute milestone in film history, A Quiet Place.
A QUIET PLACE IN A NUTSHELL
If we refer to intense emotionality, we are, of course, familiar with it from Rom-Coms or dramas. However, in the science-fiction horror genre, deep emotions are usually limited to fear, dread, terror, and sometimes happiness.
THE SITUATION
In A Quiet Place, however, things are different. This is about a young family who must find their way in a world where every sound can mean death.
Doesn’t that sound difficult? Well, when the family consists of two adolescent teenagers and a toddler, things get trickier. Moreover, if the mother is very pregnant in addition and is, therefore, about to give birth, the situation seems hopeless.
DEEP EMOTIONS
So, what to do, how to talk to each other, and how to fight the monsters? A Quiet Place illuminates all these problems in an incredibly impressive and haunting way that makes the spectator literally speechless.
Through the intense and authentic portrayal of the characters, we become one with the family. We suffer and fight with them. And, of course, we are happy when they master a difficult situation.
AUTHENTICITY
Apart from the authentic performance of all characters, the real harmony and warmth as well as the deep connection that Evelyn and Lee Abbott radiate in this world threatened by monsters is another special feature. Part of the reason for this intimacy is that both cast members, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, are married couples in real life.
What’s more, through the birth of their two children, both were able to relate to the story, which John himself wrote and directed, in the most emotional way. This is how A Quiet Place became the surprise hit of 2018. It’s a masterpiece that has lost none of its appeal and uniqueness to this day.
A QUIET PLACE PART 2
There was concern that a sequel would do more harm than good to A Quiet Place’s cult status. In fact, the story ended perfectly.
Unfortunately, with other great films like The Matrix, we’ve seen that sequels can have a detrimental negative impact on the cult of the original. But luckily, John Krasinski is a genius both in front of and behind the camera, and his wife, Emily Blunt, is one of the finest and most enchanting actresses of our time.
Together they cleverly lead us back to that place where extraterrestrial monsters prey on all those who make noises that are too loud.
But A Quiet Place 2 is more than just a sequel. The film is a must-see for anyone who wants to know how the alien invasion actually began.
THE STORY OF A QUIET PLACE PART 2
As in the first part, it is about the fate of the Abbott family. After Lee can no longer help them, Evelyn must now take care of her children Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe) as well as the newborn.
Although they were able to face the direct threat on their range in A Quiet Place, some of the corrosive alien creatures still make the area unsafe. The Abbotts can’t do it alone. So they go in search of other survivors.
Along the way, they run into Emmett (Cillian Murphy), one of Lee’s old buddies. After losing his entire family, he holed himself up in an old factory. Paralyzed by what happened, Emmett is focused on himself. Hence, he doesn’t even think about helping his friends.
But when young Regan hears a message on the radio, her zest for action is immediately awakened. Therefore, nobody can stop her from looking for the message’s sender. On her quest, Regan learns about the abysses of humanity. So, she recognizes that humans can be no less disgusting than monsters.
In addition, the deaf girl stumbles upon a lonely island. Good people live here, isolated from the mainland and, thus, unafraid of the beasts. The place seems like paradise to Regan. But her family is still stuck in the old factory.
Is Part 2 a worthy sequel?
A Quiet Place 2 seamlessly follows the prequel. A short flashback takes us back to the beginning of the invasion. After that, the story and atmosphere are almost as dense as in the first part.
The soundscape is breathtaking, and the cut is super dynamic. The simultaneous narration of up to three storylines is just brilliant. Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe carry the film through their sensitive acting.
Even if the emotionality of the original isn’t reached at every point and there’s now more spoken word, A Quiet Place 2 makes a very strong statement. The film underscores that children are much stronger, and smarter than what so-called adults often give them credit for.
Many years ago, a song topped the charts in Germany. Its title was: Children to Power. A Quiet Place 2 might have been inspired by it. Because Regan, in particular, despite her hearing loss, continues to develop into a strong fighter. She’s willing to sacrifice everything for her family and values.

A personal note is permitted here. I will remember A Quiet Place Part 2 always as a unique film. Because as representatives of the press, we are very fortunate to be able to view movies for editorial evaluation before they are released.
Therefore, I could marvel at A Quiet Place Part 2 in cinemas in February 2020. I left the room with a smile since my fears that the unique charm of the first part could be damaged by this sequel were fortunately not fulfilled. I loved A Quiet Place Part 2. Not just because of the film but also because of the people who made it.
Only a week later, the Covid-19 pandemic drastically changed our lives. Til today. And so, with a long delay, A Quiet Place Part 2 hit theaters earlier this year. At a time when many of us were still thinking about other things than going to the movies.
It wasn’t just the case with A Quiet Place Part 2. Other good films only touched the cinema screen to be shown on one of the streaming channels a short time later. But it’s not the same for the filmmakers and actors or for everyone involved in a film.
A film also lives from the atmosphere in the theater and the revenues at the box office. According to this, the income from the sale of DVDs and Blu-Rays is essential. Only then should returns from licenses play a role.
SUPPORT FILMMAKERS
Therefore, if we want to continue enjoying brilliant masterpieces like A Quiet Place, we need to think about how we can support filmmakers. One way is to pay tribute to them by purchasing a DVD or Blu-Ray. That’s why we motivate you to collect your favorites to enjoy them with your friends in your home cinema.
However convenient streaming may be, it cannot provide the basis for extraordinary productions like A Quiet Place. At least not exclusively. Aside from that, some streaming services like to remove movies every now and then.
A disc, however, is always available. With it, we can always enjoy our favorite movies in the best resolution and in all possible languages. Of course, the situation is similar when it comes to music. Just think about it 😊.
