Of course, we know the colossus from Austria as Terminator or from blockbusters like Total Recall, which we are currently giving away as a 4K Blu-Ray version. We also know him as the governor of California. But seldom before had we heard a more personal speech than the one delivered today by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
SCHWARZENEGGER RECALLS HISTORY
The riots in Washington last Wednesday obviously touched the otherwise strong actor. In his speech, in calm words, he compares the riots from the past week with the Kristallnacht that raged in Arnold’s home country Austria, and Germany, on the night of November 9th to 10th, 1938.
That night, Jewish houses and shops were destroyed, synagogues and cemeteries were desecrated, thousands arrested, and hundreds murdered. The hatred towards the Jewish population that erupted that night was sparked by the lies and inhumane propaganda of the Nazis.
In his moving speech, Arnold Schwarzenegger names Nazis and Proud Boys in the same breath. And not only that, since immediately afterwards he names the responsible person for this development, Donald Trump. Arnold Schwarzenegger explains:
“President Trump is a failed leader. He will go down in history as the worst president ever. The good thing is he will soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet.”
Anyone who is not involved in politics should still know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a member of the Republican Party. This is why his words about Joe Biden were all the more impressive:
„What a great display of democracy.” And he continues: “President-elect Biden, we wish you great success as our President. If you succeed our nation succeeds. We support you with all our hearts as you seek to bring us together. President-elect Biden, we stand with you today, tomorrow, and forever.”
Pretty much every tragedy also has its silver lining. Thus, something good could grow out of the past bad years, of which sad climax we had to experience in Washington on January 6th, 2021.
The good thing could be that more and more people are encouraged to raise their voices. However, not against one another, but for one another. For a united nation that remembers its values, of which democracy and freedom are arguably the most important.
Therefore, we can thank Arnold Schwarzenegger for these frank words. After all, he’s only a year younger than Donald Trump. So, it could be possible that we see him again in 4 years in the election for the highest office in the country.
