Since Winnie the Pooh exists, he always conquers the hearts of people. One reason is his naïve and touching personality. Additionally, his honesty and funny wisdoms open the hearts of the young as well as the old. Many people got inspired by the adventures with his animal friends Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore and Co. And, most of all, with his human childhood friend Christopher Robin.
While Christopher became an adult, Winnie and his stuffed animal friends never changed. Now, they meet each other again in Walt Disney’s new movie Christopher Robin.
Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) is an adult with great responsibilities. Gone are the carefree and light-hearted days of his childhood, when he meets his friends in his own fantasy world. Today, he has to manage the life of a conventional adult. While he would love to spend time with his wife Evelyn and his daughter Madeline, he must invest every minute for his job. It makes him sad, and, moreover, he becomes desperate. Besides, more and more he forgets his old friends.
However, he realizes that this isn’t the life he once dreamed of in childhood. Luckily, during a very bad moment in his life his old friend Winnie the Pooh suddenly appears. Winnie needs Christopher´s help. Because, he lost his friends. So, quite automatically, the “silly old bear” helps Christopher to rid himself of the misery and to remind his childhood dreams. Therefore, Christopher Robin starts the search for his old buddies Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo and Owl. So, a new adventure starts for all of them.
DIRECTOR MARC FORSTER
After action-blockbusters like “World War Z” with Brad Pitt or “Quantum of Solace”, Marc Forster finally came back to a romantic movie. “Christopher Robin” is a film about friendship and childhood-memories but moreover it is a film about dreaming, being allowed to dream and to live life to the fullest. Marc Forster’s new film transports many important messages and values which are important for children as well as – maybe much more – for adults. VALEUR had the chance to talk with Marc Forster exclusively. The director talked about the important messages of the film and Winnie the Pooh as inspiring, little bear who transmits these values to the viewers.
CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (EWAN MCGREGOR)
In Walt Disney’s movie, Christopher Robin has to deal with the permanent issue to fulfill the different roles in his life. Walt Disney lets the viewer immerse in Christopher’s inner struggles. As in his childhood, Christopher Robin escapes from reality to meet his friends in their secret world. Together they show how important it is to take a break from time to time and to keep a true friendship alive.
McGregor, who stars as Christopher Robin, had his breakthrough as actor in “Trainspotting”. He became also popular as Obi-Wan Kenobi in three of the “Star Wars” episodes. Furthermore, he convinced the public in “The Ghost Writer” and Walt Disney’s “Beauty and the Biest” to name just a few. In conjunction with “Christopher Robin” McGregor shows his ability to adopt completely different characters in all genres.
Especially in “Christopher Robin” he evokes the emotions of the audience. Moreover, he understands to let the public look through the eyes of a child.
EVELYN ROBIN (HAYLEY ATWELL)
Christopher Robin’s wife Evelyn loves his husband. She cares much about his well-being. Moreover, Evelyn understands that Christopher is overstrained with his work, his life and all the things which happen. Although he tries his best to fulfill everyone’s expectations, Evelyn realizes that her husband isn’t happy and satisfied anymore. Thus, she knows it’s time for a change.
Hayley Atwell plays the role of Evelyn Robin very emotionally and touching. She brings out the most caring side of a good and supportive wife. Therefore. she is the perfect counterpart for Ewan McGregor.
The British-American actress Hayley Atwell is mostly known for her roles in Marvel’s blockbusters like “Captain America: The First Avenger”, “The Return of the First Avenger”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Ant-Man”.
On the contrary, she showed brilliantly her ‘romantic’ side in films like “Howards End” and “The Duchess”. In “Black Mirror” she showed her talent also successfully in the horror genre. One thing is quite obvious: Hayley Atwell is able to play any role of any genre. So, as well in “Christopher Robin”.
MADELINE ROBIN (BRONTE CARMICHAEL)
Bronte Carmichael stars as Christopher Robins daughter Madeline. It’s the first big role of the young British actress. She plays with such a sweetness that the viewer doesn’t have a chance not to like her. In the film, she quickly gets along with Winnie the Pooh and his friends. Therefore, she shares this special love with her father.
Bronte Carmichael already starred in a short role in “Darkest Hour”. Furthermore, she plays a role in a science-fiction horror series called “Nightflyers”. We are sure that the role as “Madeline Robin” won’t be the last of the young talent.
Christopher Robin is a film for the entire family and, especially, for all those people who never want to forget the dreams of their childhood. Or, who want to bring them back to life.
Walt Disney’s Christopher Robin assumes the emotions and wisdom of the original books, probably much better than any other version before. Thereby, Walt Disney deals with a modern issue of our daily life: to feel burned out. This problem affects not only adults, but more and more young people feel themselves overstrained. Thus, Christopher Robin is an appeal to take time to enjoy the life. It reminds us to keep our dreams alive and to stay a bit naïve and childish. Therefore, for everyone who loves Winnie the Pooh and his heartwarming character, the film is a perfect pastime.
