Apart from Deadpool, the most people love Liam Neeson in the role of the smart and attractive avenging angel. In the Taken trilogy he saved his daughter from bad guys. He protected his son against the mafia in Run All Night. But now, Neeson raises the action in Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder).
THE STORY OF COLD PURSUIT
Nels Coxman’s (Liam Neeson) is a respectable and decent citizen. But the quiet life of the snowplow driver and his wife Grace is disrupted from his son’s death.
The autopsy reveals that a heroin overdose caused the death. However, Nels figures out that his son was murdered by a drug cartel.
After Grace has a psychotic breakdown and leaves her husband, Nels reckless vendetta starts.
With Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder) Hans Petter Moland presents a remake of his own film In Order of Disappearance.
The difference – which is actually hardly to imagine – the pictures of the nature are more impressive than in the original Norwegian version. The white snow areas create a special contrast to the dark story and the black humor.
The latter is quite similar to the original. Scandinavian have a special sense of humor, which is by all means a positive statement. Thus, the film walks the line between the genres of crime, comedy, and bloody splatter movies. Furthermore, the pictures have a touch of a National Geographic documentary – which creates a nice balance to the brutal action scenes.
And they are pretty savagely, thus, not for the faint-hearted. The white snow becomes bloody red from minute to minute. Therefore, Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder) is the perfect film for action enthusiasts who love a black humor.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect a political correctness. Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder) neither portraits the natives in detail, nor Coxman’s family or the villains. The focus is one and only on the action.
And, this action ends in the most spectacular sequence which we ever seen in that genre before. It’s simply breathtaking, when Nels Coxman drops a shorn tree on the cartel boss’ car to stop him.
Finally, Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder) isn’t Neeson’s best movie. But it’s an entertaining and unique film. Furthermore, it surprises with some very new ideas and a lot of amazing pictures. Moreover, it convinces with great action, which we expect from a Liam Neeson movie. Thus, we give Cold Pursuit (Hard Powder) 6.5 points.
