Among others featured in the German TV-broadcast of the legendary Super Bowl was the latest hit of a Berlin DJ, who has been enjoying international recognition for his feel-good remixes and dance hits for years. For this purpose, he has tackled producing a remake of the legendary party banger Lemon Tree. The musician created it in collaboration with the original creators themselves. And just so, two generations of exceptional musicians have created a new song to sweeten the gloomy Lockdown everyday life for us: Fools Garden from the 90s and DJ Alle Farben!
“LEMON TREE” THE 90’S HYMN
Twenty-five years ago, Fools Garden released the megahit Lemon Tree. And there is no doubt we can all sing along to it. And in times of lockdown, no song lyric could be more fitting than the good old “I’m sitting here in my boring room“, couldn’t it?
The original track of Lemon Tree has become a worldwide hit within a very short time after its original release in 1995. In the following, the song has managed to maintain this status over the last quarter-century. Although the lyrics are very melancholic with a sound kept quite simple, this anthem of the 90s can’t be missing at any party. So, definitely every member of the last three generations knows it – without any exception.
“Even though I didn’t study, I went to a lot of student parties myself. And Lemon Tree was the song that really was played everywhere,” Alle Farben tells us. “I always liked the song, but could never really play it live. It didn’t fit with house. Besides, even for sets where I played a lot of rock, it was still usually too slow. So I had to come up with my own version.”
ALLE FARBEN’S REVAMP
Well, in January this year, Alle Farben released his remake of the classic with his very own signature sound, breathing new life and fresh air into it.
Re-interpreting a hit and creating something from it that is on par with the times and can still rival the original? In the past, Alle Farben has proven more than once that he has a gift for exactly this task.
Be it the remake of the Reamonn hit Supergirl, which the DJ and producer from Berlin released in 2015 together with Anna Naklab and YouNotUs, or most recently Kids, for which he gave the MGMT classic from 2007 a contemporary makeover last summer together with VIZE and Graham Candy.
With his Lemon Tree cover, however, Alle Farben goes one step further. The song is not simply a remake of Fools Garden’s hit of the same name. Moreover, the Berlin DJ actually created it in collaboration with the band, whose megahymn hit the No. 1 in the charts in Germany and ten other countries in Europe. Furthermore, it also was No. 1 in Asia almost exactly 25 years ago.
“A lot of people associate loads of emotions with this song,” says Alle Farben. “So do I. The collaboration with Fools Garden is so special to me. Because it makes me see everything again from a different angle. When I played Lemon Tree at home parties back then, I never thought it was possible that I’d eventually work with Fools Garden on a new version of the song. So, that’s exactly the feeling I want to pass on to people.”
BERLIN CITY TOUR WITH ALLE FARBEN
The release of the video for the new old single already followed on 13th January. With his video, Alle Farben gives the courage to get through the lockdown fresh and lively.
Like all of us, pretty Nicole De Livron is initially bumming around in boredom in her glass cage, which symbolizes all of our prisons.
But Nicole lets her imagination run free. So she creates a to-do list with the places she would like to see at the moment.
And if it can’t be Paris then, maybe the Funkturm (radio tower Berlin will be good enough. In any case, this is how Nicole escapes her loneliness. She resolves the lockdown rigidity with a lot of joy, heart, and dance.
Places that are visited are: the Olympic Stadium, the Berlin Zoo, the Alpaca Farm “Alpaca Tierhof Marzahn” and the mill Marzahn. In addition, the MOBIKART Fun Racing Marzahn, the ferry Burchardi in Tegelort and the ICC / Radio Tower get their appearance.
Thus, the visual instrumentalizes the German capital and home of the successful DJ as a symbol for the revamped pop classic. Because Berlin is loaded with its very own nostalgia, a cultural treasure in itself, and yet as modern and relevant as never before. Just like the 90s anthem Lemon Tree and its perfectly successful reissue by Alle Farben!
