For a year now, our world has been controlled by terms such as Covid-19, incidences, R-factor, and lockdown. One term in particular has shaped our everyday life: social distancing. But our social contacts are important. Meeting other people is what makes our soul truly come to life, sharing the beautiful moments of day or night with our friends. Especially when it’s about love. That is why after the recently released film Yes, God, Yes, another romantic comedy is one of our movie picks of this week: A Nice Girl Like You with Lucy Hale.
THE STORY AND THE SEX TO-DO LIST
A Nice Girl Like You is about violinist Lucy (Lucy Hale), who has a weakness for post-it notes. Lucy tries to keep her life under control with these colorful pieces of paper.
This tick of control leads to her inability to just let herself go, especially sexually. Of course, this annoys Lucy’s boyfriend Jeff a lot. This leads to him eventually leaving her with a heavy heart.
Together with her friends from her string quartet, Lucy now works through all points step by step. From visiting a sex shop, strip club, or brothel to trying out love toys and other intimate things.
This is how the pretty musician tries to discover the secrets of lust and her perception of it. She also tries to find out what makes men tick.
As a social media star with almost 25 million followers on Instagram, she is currently one of the most sought-after young actresses. In A Nice Girl Like You, she skilfully embodies the somewhat inexperienced, but gorgeous Lucy.
Her lover Grant is played by the Australian actor Leonidas Gulaptis (“Gala & Godfrey”).
Other cast members include Jackie Cruz (“Orange Is the New Black”, “Good Girls”). And Adhir Kalyan (“Rules of Engagement”, “Arrested Development”) and Mindy Cohn (“The Facts of Life”) complete the list.
A NICE GIRL LIKE YOU – REVIEW
A Nice Girl Like You is not a masterpiece of cinema. But the movie entertains in a charming and particularly easy way. This makes it a perfect fit for the current times. The film is heart-warming and makes you smile. In the end, it transmits a simple but deep message: Be yourself and happiness will find you.
All in all, anyone longing for romance and a few feel-good minutes should check out A Nice Girl Like You and let themselves be distracted from the dreary everyday life for 94 minutes. We give it 6 stars.
