FASHION MADE WITH PASSION

“We don’t need collections, we need innovations!” For VALEUR MAGAZINE Issue 6, we talked with Francois Girbaud, the denim guru and creator of many cuts and jeans styles. His career began with the popular stone-washed jeans, created by him in the year 1974. Meanwhile, Girbaud isn’t amused about the development, because of the careless use of resources. Notwithstanding the production process, each jeans washing needs a lot of water. Therefore, Girbaud developed a new technology called Watt-Wash. With partners from the industry, he created a laser washing, which needs only 5 per cent of water – compared to the standard washings. Furthermore, the laser is able to cut the fabric perfectly, what reduces the offcuts and so the material consumption in general. With Francois Girbaud, VLAEUR found a perfect interview partner to demonstrate impressively the changings and responsibility of the fashion industry.
