Here comes yet another powerful woman with brand new music. This punk rock princess teamed up with Don Toliver and Gucci Mane for “Don’t like me?”. This is one of the tracks of her debut album “Nightmare Vacation”, just released on December 4. To this one we can add electrifying fresh hits such as “Own It” and “IPhone”. And these are only three of the 16 songs on the brand-new album of Rico Nasty!
“With a swelling fanbase and constant stream of radical breakthroughs, she is brimming with pop-star promise”, wrote Pitchfork. “She’s punky, femme, cool-headed, and audacious with the ability to integrate her multi-facets into her work.”
RICO NASTY’S “NIGHTMARE VACATION”
The work holds a total of 16 tracks. Guests include Trippie Redd, Aminé, Gucci Mane and Don Toliver. Ppcocaine, Sukihana and Rubi Rose feature in the remix of “Smack A Bitch”. Dylan Brady (100 Gecs), Take a Daytrip, Avedon and Tay Keith among others contributed in the production process.
Rico created an EDM-style remix for “IPhone” supported by DJ and producer Ookay, known for his groundbreaking EDM and trap sets. The original release for “IPHONE”, which as mentioned marked the first single from Rico Nasty’s massively anticipated debut album, arrived with a futuristic music video, featuring 3D elements. Rico’s second single from the album, “Own It”, is a high energy anthem which the trendy and brave will love. Its official video is a creative and whimsical showcase of Rico as a musician, trendsetter, and style icon, three roles she absolutely fulfills and owns!
Rico Nasty recently dropped her debut studio album “Nightmare Vacation” with a string of fiery new releases. August 13 marked the release of “IPhone” as the lead single. The second single, “Own It” aired in September, followed by “Don’t Like Me” on October 22. This massive collaboration is a first for Rico Nasty, introducing a new sound accentuated by her eclectic bars and both rappers’ unique musical abilities. Produced by BuddahBless (Pop Smoke, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Saweetie, etc.), the song contains many sexual innuendos and references the three artists’ lavish lifestyles, a common theme in this genre, over an instrumental trap beat. The next album’s single named “OHFR” came out in November. Then, after having been announced for a month with a visual cinematic trailer, “Nightmare Vacation” finally dropped in early December alongside its own 5th “STFU”-song’s music video.
ABOUT RICO NASTY
Maria-Cecilia Simone Kelly, which is her real name, has been rapping, singing, and songwriting since 2014. Back then, she began to create her own tracks as a hobby and posted them on SoundCloud. Her catchy melodic style later caught the attention of US rapper Lil Yachty. He then remixed one of her tracks called “Hey Arnold”. This finally made Rico Nasty get her first record deal in 2018. Consequently, she went from being a local underground rapper in Maryland to having her singles “Smack a Bitch” and “Poppin” quickly go viral in the same year.
In contrast to her namesakes of The Kelly Family, the 23-year-old is known for her unique and extraordinary delivery and somehow glamorous punk aesthetic. Her proudly nonconformist style is simply not vulnerable to copycats. She seems to be trying out new, unexpected things all the time. This experimentation also makes her a fashion icon for many.
“Rico Nasty has always been known for pushing the boundaries of both genre and fashion”, wrote Harper’s BAZAAR Magazine, “so it’s only fitting that her music videos perfectly reflect her eclectic tastes.”
Rico Nasty’s new debut album, “Nightmare Vacation”, is a testament to her growth. Accordingly, it talks about the trials and tribulations that come with stardom, taking its audience on an emotional rollercoaster through her individual artistry.
RICO NASTY AS A COMIC HEROINE
In addition, Rico Nasty announced via Warner Music, that she will soon be releasing a comic book. This will visually accompany her recently released debut album “Nightmare Vacation”. She wrote and produced the special edition book in collaboration with the acclaimed comic book author Jarrett Williams.
The comic magazine is named “Nightmare Vacay” to match the 2020 album. It comes in two different covers and will be available in January 2021, but you can pre-order the special bonus product now. You can perform a pre-order also via Warner Music, check it out!
Its storyline goes as follows: “Rico Nasty is deep in space recording her latest album. Unfortunately, an accidental cannabis nap sends her spaceship ‘CAM’ crashing onto Earth. Waking up at a soulless android facility, she’ll have to survive on noodles while searching for her missing ship—but at least she has the help of her new, dope girlfriends, Taco Bella & Trap Levigne (both Rico’s rap-Alter-Egos). Together, they’ll battle countless androids while trying to find CAM and finish her new album.”
What a unique idea – If that isn’t the creativity we are looking for in an alternative queen!
