Forest fires are raging in Spain, Greece, and even in Berlin. Therefore, nobody can deny climate change anymore. Much worse, we’re right in the middle. Hence, the Connoisseur Circle Hospitality Awards are also dedicated to the subject of sustainability in tourism. This year, the coveted trophy of Best Hospitality Sustainable Hotel went to the Greek Sani Resort.
THE SANI RESORT GREECE
Located in the middle of a 400-hectare nature reserve, the Sani Resort in Chalkidiki has been a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Greece for years. The award as “Best Hospitality Sustainable Hotel” at the Connoisseur Circle Hospitality Awards 2022 once again proves the progressive and trend-setting commitment of the well-known holiday resort in the field of ecology and sustainability.

Antonis Avdelas, Sani Resort’s Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, gratefully states:
We are very pleased about this award as ‘Best Sustainable Hotel’ and thank the jury of the Connoisseur Circle Hospitality Awards. This award means a lot to us, as environmental responsibility is a central aspect of our corporate philosophy.

The award shows that we are on the right track with our Sani Green program, and at the same time we see it as an incentive for continuously improvement.

Eleni Andreadis, Director of Sustainability and CSR, adds:
The Sani Resort has been focusing on the environment and its protection for over 50 years. The award encourages us to continue to take our responsibility toward the environment seriously.
Furthermore, it motivates us to pursue global goals that serve as a blueprint for a better and more sustainable future for everybody.
Greece’s CO2-neutral resort
The nature around the Sani Resort is simply spectacular. It even includes a unique ecological reserve with Greece’s most prominent bee spot. Additionally, over 20 kilometers of forest paths, 270 hectares of swamp areas, and seven kilometers of sandy beach are protected by measures bunched in the Sani Green program.

All these measures are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. So, the Sani Resort makes its contribution to climate protection, among other things, by consistently driving forward a reduction in emissions, introducing more renewable energies, and offsetting remaining emissions.
Since 2019 the resort has been powered by 100% renewable electricity. Furthermore, since 2020 the Sani Resort has been certified as the first CO2-neutral resort in Greece. The goal is to be completely plastic and waste-free by 2024 and have zero emissions by 2030.
