It’s that time again on February 7th. The mega-event, the Super Bowl, is taking place for the 55th time this year in Tampa, Florida. Even if the event will run differently this time than usual, of course, a mega-star, who delights the fans currently with his song Save Your Tears, will shake the stadium stage during the halftime show: The Weeknd.
The Canadian has been one of the hottest acts in the international music scene for over 10 years. More than 67 million listeners enjoy his music on Spotify. And that, every month!
His beginnings as a YouTube musician in the early 2010s already earned him considerable attention. Nevertheless, Abel Tesfaye – better known today as The Weeknd – kept his identity a secret for a long time.
THE WEEKND – SUCCESS & INFLUENCE
With Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015, the mysterious R’n’B underdog shot straight into pop heaven. Hits like the morbid-trumps The Hills, the funky Can’t Feel My Face, but also the seductive Earned It – which is part of the soundtrack to Fifty Shades of Gray – catapulted The Weeknd to the top worldwide Charts. Rightly so!
Beauty Behind the Madness still casts a spell over listeners with its hypnotic sound. The Weeknd also influenced Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and other great pop phenomena.
BLINDING LIGHTS
Last year the 80’s nostalgic track Blinding Lights became a worldwide sensation. Throughout the lockdowns, Blinding Lights ignited viral dance challenges across social media. The Weeknd showed therefore that we can manage without live concerts for a while.
Not only that, but the song peaked at number 1 in over 30 countries. The Weeknd set a record with Blinding Lights staying in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for over 40 weeks. It’s his 4th number 1 album and became the first to ever rank number 1 R&B streaming of all time.
THE WEEKND ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL
It goes without saying that The Weeknd will also perform its global success Blinding Lights on the show stage of the Superbowl.
We all grow up watching the greatest acts in the world play the Super Bowl. One can only dream of being in this position. I am honored and excited to be at the center of this famous stage, said the Toronto, Canada-born artist.
The spectators can look forward to a spectacular Super Bowl halftime show!
In the second year of this collaboration, Main Sponsor Pepsi, the NFL, and Roc Nation, who are once again executive producing the show, are excited to bring The Weeknd to the world’s largest stage.
SAVE YOUR TEARS
Perhaps The Weeknd will also perform his current mega-hit Save Your Tears. Since his appearance at the American Music Awards, the singer has once again delighted fans worldwide. In the most beautiful electro manner, with a strong 80s touch, the song captures The Weeknd’s longing for Bella Hadid and his regrets over breaking her heart.
It is for sure the best song on the album. In its music video, The Weeknd performs at a masquerade party after his character received plastic surgery. Thus, the clip continues the established narrative of the previous ones. Such a theme worries the fans too. They ask themselves whether the extreme “facelift” of the musician is part of the show or if it’s possibly real.
Luckily, his recent live performances prove that his face remains as surgery-free as we have loved to see it for years.
In any case, Save Your Tears is touching by its style as well as its authenticity. You can feel the pain of losing a beloved one in every note and word. And yet, your feet will have a hard time staying still. The driving rhythm forces the body to dance along and forget the world around you for a while.
Needless to say we are looking forward to the 55th Super Bowl. It will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida, on Sunday, February 7, 2021, and will be broadcasted worldwide.
