As important as the James Bond Girls are, what would a Bond adventure be without a nasty adversary. Therefore, Sky asked its viewers and selected journalists to choose the evilest James Bond villains.
THE No. 1 OF THE JAMES BOND VILLAINS
Therefore, now let’s come to the bad guys. The audience and journalists agreed that Auric Goldfinger should ascend the throne of the chief villain.
“Do you expect me to speak?” “No, I expect you to die, Mr. Bond!”
The German character actor Gerd Fröbe brilliantly embodied Goldfinger in the film of the same name and set the bar very high for his successors.
2. PLACE: JAWS VS. BLOFELD
Regarding the second place, the respondents did not agree. The journalists opted for the all-time villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Although, this member of the James Bond villains appeared in some Bond films only vaguely or not at all.
“I shall look forward personally to exterminating you, Mr. Bond.”
Telly Savalas portrays him in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. In “You Only Live Twice” the villain is played by Donald Pleasence and in “Diamonds are forever” by Charles Gray. In the Daniel Craig films, Oscar winner Christoph Waltz gives the villain his face.
“As you can see, I am about to inaugurate a little war.”
Jaws came in second as the crowd’s favorite. On the one hand, he appeared in “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977). On the other hand, in “Moonraker” (1979) even James Bond had a hard time escaping the huge colossus with its steel teeth.
Howsoever, as bad as Jaws may be, there is something lovable about his naivety and clumsiness.
3. PLACE: DR. NO VS. LE CHIFFRE
The two groups of respondents also disagreed with third place. On the one hand, the audience voted for Dr. No. Of course, the first-ever Bond opponent has cult status. Dr. No is an eccentric scientist, who is determined to ruin the US space program.
However, Bond journeys to Jamaica to nip in the bud this megalomaniac peril.
Joseph Wiseman portrayed Dr. No. He was a Canadian theater actor. Besides his appearance in James Bond, there is a very romantic story about him. When after 45 years of marriage, his wife and great love, the dancer Pearl Lang, died at the age of almost 88, he left the ‘stage of life’ only a few months later.
On the other hand, the journalists, on the other hand, chose Le Chiffre as the 3rd villain. Dark, cool, and opaque, Mads Mikkelsen embodies in “Casino Royale” the paymaster of the “Syndicat des Ouvriers d’Alsace” a trade union controlled by the Soviet counterintelligence agency SMERSH.
