2020 was her year. First, she won five Grammy’s. Then, she released the theme song for the 25th James Bond chapter, “No Time to Die”. In summer, she released her beautiful single “my future”, and recently she delighted us with her new groundbreaking single “Therefore, I Am”. Time to look back to an overwhelming year of the outstanding talent Billie Eilish.
BILLIE EILISH
THE VOICE OF A NEW GENERATION
Unconventional and self-confident, Billie Eilish stands out from the crowd of artists. Many try to put her in a genre and thus in a drawer, which is completely unnecessary. She’s just Billie Eilish, and her music is it too.
She mixes influences from many genres and always finds her own, individual tone and not only hits people’s hearts but also reaches their souls. Billie Eilish not only corresponds musically to today’s zeitgeist, but she also embodies it like hardly any other artist.
With her outfits, she swims against the current and underlines what matters, her music and personality. While she directs the focus on these values, she develops an unbelievable sensuality that allows the audience to immerse themselves in her music, to let go, and to let their feelings run free.
For this, they adore millions of people, regardless of age and gender. Billie Eilish is as timeless in her way as her music. She is real. She is wild, crazy, and lives out all layers of life, from deeply saddened to overjoyed.
In this way, she reflects real life and not perfectionism that social media would like to fool us, but which does not actually exist.
So it is hardly surprising that 2020 was the year of Billie Eilish. It began with the announcement on January 14th. Then it was clear, that she will follow in the footsteps of such big names as Shirley Bassey and Paul McCartney.
Of course, her performance of the James Bond theme song “No Time to Die” became another great success.
BILLIE EILISH’S AWARDS 2020
The 62nd Grammy Awards, which were presented on January 26th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, continued in quick succession. It was Eilish’s second big bang of the year.
Because here she became the youngest person and first woman to win the four major categories in the same year. Thereby, she was honored as “Best New Artist”. Moreover, she won awards for “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, and “Album of the Year.” Besides, she won the Grammy for “Best Pop Vocal Album” for “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”.
Then, the COVID-19 pandemic started, but Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas performed for both Global Citizen’s “Together at Home” online concert and iHeart Media’s Living Room Concert for America. The aim of these virtual concerts was to raise awareness and funds towards fighting the virus.
BILLIE EILISH AND HER POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT
But there was another “virus” to fight against. Billie Eilish showed that she isn’t just performing deep songs, but that she is aware of the important things in everyday life. Hence, she showed commitment in supporting United States’ voting rights.
Billie Eilish declared that her fans pick a group working to register voters to support. In August 2020, she performed at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Here, she announced her endorsement of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.
HER VIRTUAL CONCERT
It was one of Billi Eilish’s less live performances this year. Actually, she would have toured around the globe the entire year. The live tour was completely sold out worldwide. However, Billie just played the first shows in the USA when the pandemic stopped everything.
The tour has been postponed, but on October 24, Eilish presented a virtual concert. The brilliant show was streamed life worldwide. Together with fans, who also performed upstream, Billie celebrated and performed her hits including the new James Bond 007 title song “No Time to Die”. Both fans and media celebrated the great designed show” as “best live stream” and “setting standards”.
NME wrote: “You can count on her to perform a show that reminds us how lucky we are to be in the world now, in her time.”
“Billie Eilish’s virtual concert is one of the rare live streams where everything is done right” Rolling Stone
The stage concept was based on the design for her postponed world tour and the technical implementation sets the bar for live streams to a new level. But it wasn’t just about music.
Billie Eilish addressed again the upcoming US election. Thereby, she urged the public to get involved, to vote, and to push for a change in the country. Climate change was also a constant issue. Back in July, Eilish released her second single after “No Time to Die.”
MY FUTURE
She constantly hits the heart and soul with her voice, for example with her song “my future”.
Billie Eilish’s single “my future“ was already been released on 31st July and introduced at the Democratic National Convention. But because of its important meaning and the simple but moving tunes, it belongs definitely to those timeless and relevant songs, that you can listen to again and again, even in decades.
Especially at the end of a chaotic year, which was dominated by a pandemic and the need to stand up for human rights, or to fight against domestic violence, it’s important to gain energy. Hence, it is important to think twice about the future. Therefore, Bille Eilish’s “my future” has a unique importance and message.
