After a good breakfast in CAFÉ FLEURÍ – ORGANIC CAFÉ, the next morning the V-GUIDES go to the CONVENT OF NOBLE MAIDENS. Just across the road, they are invited to learn more about DET GODE BRØD’s homemade treats. Since the sweet tooth can’t get enough, it’s off to CHOKOLADEHUSET (CHOCOLATIER), where they can not only experience delicious ice cream but also typical Danish hygge.

The unique jewelry that can be found at HYTTEBALLE ANTIQUES also makes the hearts of style-conscious adventurers beat faster. Not far from here, the girls find the beautiful SCT. ALBANI CHURCH. In general, the path leads along many interesting CHURCHES these days, all of which have exciting stories to tell.

In the OLD TOWN QUARTER, the V-GUIDES experience the beautiful architecture and history with all senses in a cultural oasis, the ODENSE CITY MUSEUM MØNTERGAARDEN. Here, they learn that local merchants were once well off because Odense was the trade gateway between Scandinavia and continental Europe. In this way, the discoverers in the museum travel back into prehistory up to the late Middle Ages.

Back in the present, the group meets many locals at the STREET FOOD MARKET. In the STORMS PAKHUS, they show the V-GUIDES local and international DELICACIES and what the term HYGGE means. At the central square, SORTEBRØDRE TORV, the friends discover the local FARMER’S MARKET (Wednesday and Saturday), where they use the opportunity to observe life at one of the cafés like the GRØNTTORVET.

In the KRAMBODEN (THE OLD STORE) the V-GUIDES have a very special shopping experience. They meet the young owners who keep the old traditions of their homeland alive. Later, the explorers also stumble upon THE WASHING SITE AT ODENSE RIVER, where they are reminded that H.C. Andersen’s mother was a laundress. Perhaps she, too, washed her customers’ clothes and bedclothes here in wind and weather (all year round)?

In the LATIN QUARTER, the team discovers the BRANDTS KLÆDEFABRIK, the former textile factory complex that is now a shopping and cultural destination. After some SHOPPING and a bite to eat at one of the CAFÉS, the V-GUIDES tour the concert halls, artists’ studios, workshops, and the cavernous venue, especially for students. Of course, the curious girls also visit the ART MUSEUM BRANDTS. Maybe they’ll come back here in the evening to see one of the concerts at MAGASINET – MUSIC AND THEATRE VENUE. After all, Kevin Costner has played here with his band Modern West.

SIDE STORY

A short detour to the east leads the V-GUIDES to ODIN’S ODENSE – IRON AGE AND VIKING AGE. Here they immerse themselves in the most diverse and exciting ways in the real life of the Vikings.

Back in the center, after a delicious coffee at DRUEN & BØNNEN and CAFÉ KRÆZ ON OVE SPROGØES PLADS, the group heads to the MUSEUM OF EVERYDAY LIFE IN THE 20TH CENTURY. Here, the friends can experience firsthand what life was like for the different generations of Odense in recent times.

A stop at MUNKEMOSE PARK is perfect to relax and inspiring. Many people found inspiration here, including Denmark’s cultural icon, composer Carl Nielsen. He was also born near Odense. In the museum dedicated to him, the girls learn more about the life and work of the luminary of early-20th-century classical music.

After a bite to eat in the cozy EYDES GASTRO PUB, the girls discover that art is everywhere in Odense, including in the streets. Because here they discover the artistic MURALS on the facades of the houses, such as MISS TAKE’S MURAL BY BRANDTS, or the HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN MURAL. The ROA STREET ART in the harbor and the NORTH ATLANTIC HOUSE will also be visited. The many SCULPTURES* and the stories associated with them also make Odense an open-air museum.

The girls are now getting dressed up for the evening when they meet their new friends from town. Maybe they visit the ODENSE SUMMER REVUE. In any case, the friends watch a Danish film at CAFÉ BIOGRAFEN – CINEMA AND BAR. Afterward, the local friends show the guests the culinary highlights of the city. Instead of fancy molecular gastronomy, discover an old inn here, the GAMIE KRO.

The old crooked half-timbered house has been in the center of the city since 1683. The girls opt for typical Danish dishes such as smoked eel and herring. With a cold beer and a warm atmosphere, just hygge, this beautiful day with wonderful people comes to an end at DEN SMAGLØSE CAFÉ – THE KITCHY CAFÉ.
