This week it’s going east, where the V-GUIDES explore the island of CHRISTIANSØ, which is only 80 km away from the Swedish coast. Upon arrival in port, pass exciting buildings such as the former COMMANDER’S RESIDENCE, now an Inn. It goes past the HVIDE HUS up the 101 steps into the heart of Christiansø. The V-GUIDES discover the former BRAUEREI BELLA VISTA, the BUTIK LIGHUSET, and the GADEN (former soldiers’ houses).
Down the street, things get artistic at PALIVAREN GALLERY at Juuls Bastion. In the SIRENEHUSET gift shop, the girls buy some souvenirs for the audience (COMPETITION). This is how they reach the KONGENS BASTION (King’s Bulwark, far south), one of the largest defenses on the island. The Bastion’s cannons are still firing salutes (Ships, St. Hans/Midsummer).
The tour continues along the COUCHERONS BASTION, DRONNINGENS BASTION, and finally HOFFMANS PORT. From here the V-GUIDES can see the small island of ØSTERSKÆR, Denmark’s most easterly point. The friends continue to CHRISTIANSØ TELTPLADS, KILDENDALS PORT, and KONGENS HAVE.
The historical excursion takes the V-GUIDES on to the HERTUGINDENS BASTION and the northernmost point of the island, known to the people who used to live here as “VERDENS ENDE (THE WORLD’S END)”. Nearby, close to the LOPPEHYTTEN (Flea hut) at BIELKES BASTION, the girls discover THE LOVE BENCH where lovers like to meet around “FJÆGGAS LID” (kiss a little).
From RANTZAUS BASTION and GYLDENLØVES BASTION, the V-GUIDES see the island of GRÆSHOLM, which is full of birds during the mating season. The group also sees the TAT ISLAND and its LIGHTHOUSE and the countless SEALS sunbathing here. After a visit to NATURE PARK and NATIONAL PARK, a delicious dinner awaits the girls at CHRISTIANSØ GUESTHOUSE, where they will also hear the song “ UD PÅ FLISEN, KAROLINE“.
From the recently renovated STORE TÅRN (GREAT TOWER), the V-GUIDES have a fantastic all-around view. In the MUSEUM they learn more about the 300-year history of the tower and in the nearby NAVAL FORTRESS more about the wild history of the small island. From the highest point of the Fortress, MØLLEBAKKEN (The Mill Hill), the girls have another stunning view of the area.
After so much history, it’s time for a dip at BATHING JETTY ON FREDERIKSØ. While splashing around, the pretty V-GUIDES are watched by the curious SEALS sunbathing on the nearby rocks.
It continues via FREDERIKSØ. The friend’s route takes them along the original residences HARKESTRÆDE and the community center MÅNEN. This is how the V-GUIDES reach the SEHSTEDS BATTERI (Landmark) and the LITTLE TÅRN (TOWER). In its museum, they learn more about the history of the tower, which was also used as a fortress and hospital. From above, the girls enjoy the magnificent view over the area and to the ISLAND GRÆSHOLM, which is a bird sanctuary today.
The view of the water inspires the girls to jump into it again. BADEBRO is ideally suited for this. After the bathing fun, the group goes to the NYHAVNS BATTERI. The girls then stroll along the BLACK GUNBOAT SHEDS, reminiscent of the English War period of 1807-14. And so they come across RUTHS KRYDDERSILD. The epicures taste one of the three delicious flavors of marinated herring on offer here. They even learn some secret recipes from the locals.
Then it goes to the CHOLERA GRAVEYARD, which was built especially for the victims of the pandemic in the 19th century. The friends eventually stumble upon THE PRISON „BALLONEN“ nearby. In the small museum, they learn that they can spend the night here in a very special atmosphere, in one of the former PRISON CELLS.
