SPECIAL – SIDE STORY

Near TØLLØSE the girls find DANMARKS NATURVILDE OPDAGELSESCENTER, the country’s largest telescope, stargazing shelters, starry evening… OBSERVATORY IN BRORFELDE, where they can learn about both the universe and the nature surrounding us.

After a royal breakfast, the V-GUIDES say goodbye to their hosts, the Dinesen family, and visit the FUGLEDEGÅRD VIKING CENTER at TISSØ LAKE. Here, they explore the world’s largest find from the Viking Age, the impressive TISSØRING, made of 1.8 kilos of gold. They learn that for more than 500 years Fugledegård was the royal residence (Kongsgård), and is part of ÅMOSEN NATUREPARK.

Afterward, the girls explore the FIVE AMAZING GARDENS at BIRKEGÅRDENS HAVER, each with their own theme from The Danish/English Garden to The Japanese Garden, The Prairie Garden, The Convent Garden, and the Permaculture Garden.

At the north-western tip, in KALUNDBORG, the adventurers discover the FJORD. From lively activities and exciting events in HAVNEPARKEN, they follow the city’s streets filled with atmosphere and coziness. In HØJBYEN in Kalundborg, they find the largest collection of MEDIEVAL HOUSES in Denmark. Here, they also find the city’s beautiful landmark, the church VOR FRUE KIRKE, with its five towers. In the old part of town, the friends discover a unique part of Danish history and find the country’s SMALLEST HOUSE, of only 22 square meters and 12 rows of tiles.

With a stop at LØVENBORG SLOT, the friends take a walk in the beautiful baroque garden, inspired by both English and French garden style. In HOLBÆK the group lands straight in the HARBOR, from where they stumble into the shopping street. Here begins an exploration of cool SHOPS, cozy CAFÉS, and fine RESTAURANTS. The entire time the girls can enjoy the view of ISEFJORDEN while finding a lot of GREEN AREAS and a HARBOR BATH in FILMTORVET. Of course, the art-lovers also visit the cultural life with THEATERS, CINEMA and VENUES.

SIDE STORY

DRAGSHOLM SLOT HOTEL – Dragsholm Castle offers a castle stay with a focus on wellness and immersion. Both culinary and cultural.

The V-GUIDES continue along the beautiful GUDMINDRUP BEACH in HØJBY, to HUNDESTED (“water bridge”). In LYNÆS HARBOR, the girls will not only find restaurants like the SKIPPERSTUEN, the FISH HOUSE, or the ICE CREAM HOUSE but also a few pretty SHOPS and the LYNÆS SURFCENTER. Here, the adventurers try their hand at kitesurfing, windsurfing, sup, and kayaking. In between, they take a break at the SURF CAFÉ. It may be summer, but maybe the surf center team will welcome the girls even more and open THE HOT SAUNAS which allows an overlook of the beautiful ISEFJORD and the LIGHTHOUSE.

There is also some sunbathing at LYNÆS BEACH. That Lynæs offers more than fisherman’s houses, harbor baths, a surf center, and the beach HAUGEN GALLERY.

At ANN´S LÆKKERIER | BAKERY & CAFÉ the girls enjoy the freshly baked delicacies in the small front garden. Then they ask the church-warden of the relatively young LYNÆS CHURCH for the key to look inside. Nowadays, the V-GUIDES take countless photos and record hundreds of videos with their smartphones and cameras. None of this would be possible without scientists like VALDEMAR POULSENS HILL who invented the first magnetic sound recorder in 1898 and later in 1903 the electric arc transmitter for radiotelephony. A small path north of Lynæs Church wall takes the V-GUIDES to his HILLOCK.

With a detour to the TOTHAVENS FARM AND SHOP and the KIK-FORBI IN KIKHAVN both located in KIKHAVN, the girls learn more about the work and ecological products that are made here.

Then it’s off to the Farm Shop KIK-FORBI IN KIKHAVN BY HUNDESTED. The girls discover the KNUD RASMUSSENS MEMORY CAIRN and the KNUD RASMUSSEN’S HOUSE. This is how they learn more about the great polar explorer who did many and long expeditions in Greenland. Here, the V-GUIDES also climb the SPODSBJERG LIGHTHOUSE to enjoy the magnificent view over the KATTEGAT towards HESSELØ.

In the RESTAURANT KNUD, something is strengthened before it goes to the SKANSEN VED SPODSBJERG, the remains of a fortification from 1807 – which were built together with other fortifications all along the Danish coasts in connection with the English War 1801-1814 to protect the entrance to the ISEFJORD. In a completely unique nature area by SPODSBJERG LIGHTHOUSE, the girls also find the ART ASSOCIATION ”FYRGÅRDEN” (Hundested Kunstforening). It’s open to art lovers like the V-GUIDES.

Very close by they find one of Denmark’s oldest ecological villages, Økosamfundet Dyssekilde, the ECOLOGICAL VILLAGE DYSSEKILDE. The girls learn that the ecological community, also called ØD, is a village built exclusively of ecological materials and that it produces its own energy.

The V-GUIDES now have enough energy to admire the 12th century TORUP CHURCH with its granite Romanesque baptismal font, frescoes from about 1.250, a crucifix from about 1.300, and the nave from 1.750. At the TORUP MARKET and in the TORUP EATERY, the organic dining house, the friends enjoy the local vegetarian and vegan flavors.

The group then joins TREKANTEN BEACH BY HUNDESTED where they enjoy the sun for a while before heading into HUNDESTED HARBOR. Here, they marvel at the works of the SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL, which can be viewed from May to October. The discoverers also marvel at the architectural lines of the building are designed with respect for the surroundings and inspired by the location of the water, the BACKHAUS BROWN. As much as the building, also known as the Little Black Diamond, fascinates them from the outside, the art lovers are also impressed by the beautiful products of the Glass Workshop in the house itself.

Vis-a-vis, the style-conscious girls find BENDIX COPENHAGEN. Here they have a special experience as the first-class jewelry from Bendix Copenhagen creates a unique atmosphere with the ambiance of the house and the harbor. One of Hundested’s biggest attractions is now waiting for the V-GUIDES, VAFFELHJØRNET. Here, at the end of Nørregade, they want to get a WAFFLE ICE CREAM in one of Denmark’s best ice cream parlors.

Ice cream in hand, they head to the EXPERIENCE PLATFORM, where the girls immerse themselves in the marvelous world of the sea in the pools filled with fish and crabs. Maybe they will pet a fish or catch a crab. In the ecological boutique TARAXACUM, the girls don’t have to catch anything, but they can discover a rich choice of healthy food products, groceries, fruits, vegetables, and bread from KORNSANG. The V-GUIDES continue to browse the harbor and discover ROSEHILL GLAS and the GALLERY NORD, where they admire a special kind of jewelry.

The group continues to the LIISBERG GALLERY where – nestled in one of the red fishing cottages at the charming Hundested harbor – the V-GUIDES find amazing pieces of art, craft, and design. The hearts of fashionistas beat faster at SCUSI. Here, they spoil themselves with clothes, accessories, and handicrafts while having tea, chocolate, and other delicacies. A present for the audience won’t be forgotten.

Of course, the group also admires the ceramics, jewelry, and paintings of the gallery and artisan boutique DE UNDERLIGE FISK GALLERY AT HUNDESTED HARBOR. Furthermore, the friends might buy one of the handbags, silk scarves, shawls, stone, and bronze figures handmade by artists from North Sealand. The girls then have fun at the 18-hole course at FJORDENS MINIGOLF with a view of the harbor. Next to the mini golf, they enjoy an ICE CREAM, and then a beer at PROVIANT HUNDESTED.

The V-GUIDES love that so much is locally produced in Denmark. So, of course, they have to make a stop at the HALSNÆS BREWERY to taste a delicious beer. The evening has already fallen and it’s off to Lynæs again, where a SOCIAL DINING (Wednesday) is on the agenda. Here a cozy social meal awaits the girls and the opportunity to get to know each other better with the other guests. All eat together, have fun, and clean up together. Two girls spend the night at SURF HACK AT LYNÆS SURFCENTER while the other two choose one of the other options.
